WELCOME TO ELECTRONIC THESES AND DISSERTATIONS (ETD)

AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY

Traditionally, a thesis or dissertation has consisted of a written document formatted and bound much like a book.  However, with the explosion of digital technology, creative scholarly works now regularly incorporate features such as sound, video, graphics, and hypertext links or search tools, and many graduate students are finding that text-only theses or dissertations do not fully represent their work.

ETDs provide highly visibile long-term preservation for student research, increased access to scholarship for researchers in developing countries, enhanced academic profile of the host institution, and (compared to versions in print) savings on preparation and storage costs.

The Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) initiative is a collaborative effort among academic departments, the Graduate School, and the University Libraries via Digital Georgetown to help graduate students create works of scholarship that are interactive, visually appealing, and readily accessible to a large audience of interested readers.

The ETD program, piloted by the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) Program and the Georgetown Public Policy Institute (GPPI), has now been extended to all master’s programs.
