ETD SUBMISSION PROCESS
Before you begin the submission process, please follow the guidelines provided below.

BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR ETD TO THE GRADUATE SCHOOL:
For submitting your ETD via PDF:
- Create your document and save the file as a PDF. If you do not have access to a PDF converter, the service is available for free online HERE.
- Rename your PDF using your Georgetown ID preceeded by 'etd' and an underscore ('_').
For example, if your username is 'jhoya22,' then the file name for your PDF would be 'etd_jhoya22.pdf'.
- Create a new folder on your computer and name it using your Georgetown ID preceded by 'etd' and an underscore ('_').
For example, if your username is 'jhoya22,' then the folder name for your dissertation would be 'etd_jhoya22'.
- Put all the files for your ETD in the new folder. All files should have a distinct name with an appropriate standard suffix (e.g., name other PDF files with the ".pdf" suffix, name GIFs with a ".gif" suffix, name JPEGs with the ".jpg" suffix, etc.). If your ETD contains multiple html/web pages, be sure your homepage is named 'index.'
- Use Winzip (PC) or Stuffit (Mac) to package the FOLDER containing all of your files for uploading. Both programs are available for free in the Gelardin New Media Center or for download off of the internet (LINKS).
- Upon saving, use your Georgetown ID username preceded by 'etd_' to name the file.
For example, if your username is 'jhoya22,' then the zip file name for your dissertation would be 'etd_jhoya22.zip'
For submitting multiple files (used for interactive multimedia ETDs):
Next, make a text file of your abstract: It will be used to cut and paste into a form later.
Using your web browser, go to the ETD Submission Form. The form will ask you for:
- First Name
- Last Name
- 9 digit University ID #
- Title of Dissertation
- Dissertation Abstract (copy and paste this from your text file!)
- Degree
- Major
- Committee Members
- Defense Date
- Up to 6 Keywords to Describe your Dissertation or Thesis
Make sure the information you provided is correct (including spelling and Capitalization!) before submitting.
- Choose "Send" to submit the form.
Once the information is submitted successfully, you will receive an e-mail at your Georgetown account confirming your information.
AFTER YOU SUBMIT:
Return the ETD Approval Form, all required surveys, and your personal information form to the Graduate School by the appropriate deadline along with all necessary payments. The Graduate School will not review your ETD without this material. All forms may be downloaded from the 'ETD Forms' section found on the left of this page.
If we are unable to accept your ETD, you will be given instructions on how to correct and resubmit it.
When your ETD is accepted for placement in the library catalog and is available online for viewing, you will be notified via e-mail.
